  • Capital's Kid-Friendly Summer Hit List

As much as we love our new construction homes, it’s easy to get cabin fever during the long hot summer days. When the kiddie pools and sprinklers have lost their luster, you know the time has come to go out. Looking for a fun event near your new construction home’s neighborhood? Here is our ultimate summer neighborhood guide to help you plan outings and adventures for your family.

Grab your fishing pole, buy some night crawlers, and head out to Lake Bixoma. Just south of Bixby, this serene lake is the perfect place to pack a picnic and spend the day by the water. Worried about small kids in the sun? There are plenty of group shelters and clean restrooms on location. After finishing up a picnic lunch, enjoy casting your hook on one of the fishing docks along the shore.

Broken Arrow!

If you enjoy fresh fruit, the great outdoors, and time with the kids, visit Thunderbird Berry Farm located on the east side of Broken Arrow. Only open during the summer, this farm allows your family to visit and pick your own fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. With all-you-can-pick berries for $3 a pound, this is a farm-to-table experience you won’t forget.

Grand Lake!

Even if you don’t own a boat, you can still enjoy activities at Grand Lake. H2O Sports Rental offers jet skis, ski boats, pontoons, and wakeboards that your family can take out to Grand Lake. Let the kiddos burn extra energy while you work on a tan floating across one of Oklahoma’s most beautiful water destinations. Pack up a cooler, and rent equipment for either a full or half day.

If you have had a little too much fun in the sun, spend a day inside at the Oklahoma Aquarium. The aquarium features a shark tunnel, an Oklahoma Wildlife exhibit, and fish from around the world. In addition, there are multiple times throughout the day where kids can feed stingrays or other fish. And just in case the kids get hungry during the visit, there is a snack bar on site.

Every Thursday night, downtown Owasso transforms into an outdoor festival. The Owasso Gathering on Main takes place each week and is a must-do activity for the family. Between live music, local food, and plenty of kids activities, Owasso Gathering on Main provides relaxing entertainment for the entire family. Admission is free, so grab your lawn chairs and enjoy a night out.

Sand Springs!

Go on an enchanting hiking adventure in the Keystone Ancient Forest, just outside of Sand Springs. With over 1,000 preserved acres to explore, the Keystone Ancient Forest is home to a 500-year-old oak tree and several cedar trees that are over 300 years old. Keep your eyes peeled; you can run into various wildlife such as deer, American eagles, and bobcats.

It’s always tea time at Miss Scarlett’s Tea Room in the historic Burnett Mansion. This home was built in 1911 and has now been transformed into a high tea destination with full lunch menu. Enjoy tea inside the beautifully preserved mansion or on the patio overlooking downtown Sapulpa. This is a must-see experience especially for younger girls wanting to dress up.

Travel back in time by watching a movie at Kendall Whittier’s Circle Cinema. This is the only place in town to catch documentaries, independent, and foreign films. In addition, the vintage theater hosts various special events. Circle Cinema is a good escape for a parents’ night out. However, there are also shows and events that appeal to people of all ages. Visit their website for a list of upcoming films and events.
