Team Member Spotlight: Mike Patty
At Capital Homes, our goal of "Building Trust" begins with the people on our team who uphold our Capital Standards. In this blog, meet Mike Patty from our purchasing and architectural design team, and learn more about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building your Capital home.
Q: How long have you been a member of the Capital team? In the construction business?
A: I've been a member of the Capital team for four years. I am a draftsman by trade and worked for about three years in that role until I switched to the homebuilding side of things. I have been working in the construction business in various capacities for the last 12 years.
Q: What is your role with Capital Homes?
A: I work in purchasing and estimating. I also help out with Capital's architectural design and drafting.
Q: What makes a Capital home great?
A: For me it's a mix of things. Our standard features - such as ceramic tile and our selection of interior doors - are all included at no extra charge. Those types of details exude quality. We also have a great team of employees and trade partners that care about the work they do and the final product we deliver to the consumer.
Q: As the person who's driving the design of our homes, how do you balance the desires of homeowners to be energy efficient while still getting an affordable home?
A: We try to balance what's trending in the energy efficiency space and maximize the value provided to the consumer. We also look to our homeowners for suggestions of their desired features and then determine if it's something that fits into our business model.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: One of my passions is Brazilian Jujitsu; it's a grappling art, which I have been practicing for more than 4 ½ years. It is an art form - a 5 minute, human chess match - where submission determines who wins the match. Typically I compete in local tournaments, but at the moment, I'm taking a break due to a knee injury.
Q: What keeps you so dedicated to this kind of practice?
A: It's not hard to be dedicated to something that is so fun. It's a form of therapy, too. Where else can try to choke your friends unconscious in a controlled environment where no one gets hurt!? In all seriousness, no matter where you are with your day and what kind of day it's been, when you step on to the mat to grapple, it all has to go away. The human chess match is about to start and you have to be present.
Q: What do you most enjoy about being part of the Capital Homes team?
A: I have been at jobs where they want it all, for nothing. Sometimes that means they want all of you as a person, or all of your consumer. That is not at all the case at Capital Homes; Capital truly cares about both its team members and customers, and wants to be fair with all aspects of its business.
