Oklahoma has a rich variety of geographical and natural features, and is home to a great range of tourist attractions, including historical sites, museums, state parks, and more. So if you're looking to learn more about the rich history of midwestern American culture or have a whale of a time with your family, here are a few fun and exciting things to do in Oklahoma.
The Mercantile
The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, a destination restaurant, bakery and store, is just an hour away from Tulsa, OK. Located in the City of Pawhuska, visitors can enjoy delicious coffee, fresh-made pastries, comfort foods, and shop a gorgeous array of goods at The Mercantile. Did you know that this destination also offers lodge tours? Visitors are welcome to tour The Lodge on Drummond Ranch for free. In addition to being a family guest house, it's where Ree films her Food Network show. Anne Marie "Ree" Drummond is an American writer and photographer.
Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve
This tallgrass prairie preserve is also located in Pawhuska, OK and is 1 hour and 34 minutes away from Tulsa, OK. Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is the largest protected piece of tallgrass prairie on Earth. It offers unmatched wildlife watching opportunities and natural habitat views. If you are a bird watching enthusiast, there are over 300 birds that make this prairie home. You are definitely in for a treat. For outdoorsy individuals, there is an array of hiking trails to choose from.
Pops 66 Soda Ranch
Driving along Route 66? Pops 66 is one of the most popular stops you can make. Located just 1 hour and 25 minutes from Tulsa, OK, visitors can indulge in delicious meals and desserts (for those with a sweet tooth). Before filling up your gas tank and resuming your Route 66 adventure, be sure to shop their snacks, bubbly drinks, and other cool souvenirs.
Beavers Bend State Resort Park
If you're looking to really take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, theBeavers Bend State Resort Park would be a sweet retreat for the senses. Nestled in the southeast region in Broken Bow, the resort park is also home to Hochatwon State Parks and tourist attractions such as the Cedar Creek Golf Course and Lakeview Lodge. At 3.5 hours drive from Tulsa, this destination is a bit further from the beaten path, but the park’s rustic cabin lodgings are perfect for a weekend getaway. The park is best known for its rivers and lakes, meaning that those who love kayaking, canoeing, paddling, or fishing shouldn't miss out on this destination.
Arbuckle Wilderness Park
Feeling adventurous? Arbuckle Wilderness Park is an exotic animal park that's home to a reptile center, petting zoo, and self-drive car tours. It takes about 2 hours and 42 minutes to drive from Tulsa, OK. At this award-winning tourist attraction, you get to feed animals from your car as animals roam free. Before you leave, you can also find a variety of stuffed animals, t-shirts, and hats at their Safari Store.
